CEMETERIES -- Pawnee County -- Mount Vernon Cemetery near Glencoe, Oklahoma

About 1895, Mr. Edom Love gave the community 2 acres for a community burial ground and church site.  The United Brethren Church from western Oklahoma then built a church on the site and services were held there by others for a number of years.  Later the farm was sold to a Mr. LaMarr of Morrison, Oklahoma, and it was found that no deed had ever been made out for the two acres given by Mr. Love, original owner of the place.  Mr. Albert Buntin then circulated a petition among the people of the neighborhood and also took up donations to buy the site of the cemetery and church house from the owner.  This was done and trustees were appointed to take care of the business.  The trustees were; Mr. Jim Cooper, Mr. Winoer Buntin, Mr.  Albert Buntin, Mr. Pete Davis and Mr. John Dean.  The building and cemetery were bought for $50.00

About 1929 the building, which had had no care, became so weather beaten that it was unsafe for meetings and the United Brethren Church had long abandoned it.  It had been used as a meeting place for all denominations for a number of years.  It was torn down and  Mr. Albert Buntin bought a building in Glencoe, then took up donations to get money enough to have it moved the eight miles to the cemetery.  It is now used as a community church by the neighborhood and people of all denominations are welcomed.

Mr. Albert Buntin bought and put an iron fence around the cemetery several years ago.  The cemetery covers about one acre.
